Kenya Gichathaini Washed Filter 200g
A bright, floral washed coffee from the Gichathaini wet mill in Nyeri County's Mathira West district, in the foothills of Mount Kenya. Set in deep, red volcanic soil with excellent drainage, the station is served by over 1,000 smallholder members and forms part of the Gikanda Farmers' Cooperative Society — owned by the very farmers who deliver cherries to it.
Located about 6 km from Karatina on the eastern side of Mount Kenya National Park, the region enjoys abundant year-round rainfall, cool nights, and daily temperatures between 15°C and 26°C. Water for fermenting and washing is gravity-fed from the nearby Ragati river, recirculated for conservation, then channelled into soak pits away from water sources to protect the area.
The result reflects both the growing conditions and the producers' strict quality standards: a clean, vibrant cup of floral aromatics, star fruit, and finger lime.
